Marcos Alonso would no longer take the knee.

Chelsea's left back , Marcos Alonso says he will no longer take the knee before kick-offs. The 30 year old Spaniard explains that , the gesture of taking the knee before kick-offs which is aimed at fighting racism and hate is no longer effective and he sees no reason to why he should take the knee before each game starts. Unlike last season, the Chelsea defender hasn't taken the knee since the start of this season.

Since summer 2020, after the famous #blacklivesmatter protest, football players decided to take the knee to show their support in the fight against racism.

"I am fully against racism and I'm against every type of discrimination. I just prefer to put my finger to the badge where it says: 'No to racism', like they do in some other sports and football in other countries. I prefer to do it this way and, of course, to say very clearly that I am against racism and I respect everybody."

Some teammates of Marcos 9Alonso ; Reece James, Hudson odoi and Lukaku have all been victims of racism . when asked if his ( Marcos Alonso) decision not to take the knee cause uncomfort in the dressing room , this is what the Chelsea defender had to say " We haven't talked about it. We are in the changing room and we are like a family. I have a very good relationship with everyone. I love everyone and, up to now, we haven't talked about it."

Well, Alonso is the first in the Chelsea squad to refuse the gesture but not the first Premier league player to do so. Wilfred Zaha of Crystal palace with his own reasons too refuses to take the knee . However, this is not to say footballers or staff that refuse to take the knee are jns support of racism.
